Cancelation of simulation of EU institutions Athens EU Model 2020
Under the light of the recent COVID-19 virus developments and according to the Greek Government orders on the outbreak, we are sorry to announce that this year’s Athens EU Model simulation (May 11th – 14th 2020), organized by the Europe Direct Information Center hosted at the Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) ,and the Institute of European Integration and Policy is cancelled. Applicants will be notified individually via e-mail as well.

The Institute of European Integration and Policy of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece) and the Europe Direct Information Center hosted at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) are pleased to announce the organization of «Athens EU Model 2020» to be held on May 11-14, 2020 at the Department’s premises (42-44, Aiolou str., Monastiraki area, in the historical centre of Athens).
The Athens EU Model 2020 will be a four-day simulation of two EU institutions, the European Commission and the Council of the EU (Environmental Council-ENVI). The call is open to 70 advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as graduates, from Greek and foreign Universities of various disciplines. Participants will be assigned various roles promoting their policy positions and negotiating on the «European Green Deal». The roles will be those of:
-EU Commissioners
-Ministers of Environment
-Journalists
-European Parliament Parties representatives
-European Environmental Agency representatives
-UNFCCC representatives
-Environmental NGO representatives
-Fossil fuels NGO representatives
The main agenda topic is the European Green Deal. The European Commission will negotiate on «Just transition and funding» and the Council of Ministers on «Implementing the European Green Deal».
The working language of the simulation will be English.
The participation fee, covering three preparatory lectures, the Model’s dossier and coffee breaks is set to 50 euros per person.

Successful applicants will be informed by March 23rd. Participants will receive their study guides and relevant material shortly after, and they will have the opportunity to attend preparatory lectures on the EU institutional processes, as well as the agenda topic.
