5 Human Rights Master Programs with low tuition fees

Theory and Practice of Human Rights (Norway)

This Master program offered by the University of Oslo has no tuition fee at all and a duration of 2 years (4 terms). In the first term students learn to approach and understand human rights from various multidisciplinary perspectives such as philosophy, history and politics. The second term of the master program is focused on combining the theory and practise of human rights. Students can choose between several elective courses depending on their interests.

Master in Human Rights and Democratizaion (Italy)

This well established master program offered by the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation comes with a tuition fee of 4900 Euros. Part of the curriculum is a field trip to Kosovo together with students of the Vienna Human Rights Master program (20.000 Euro tuition fee). The whole master program takes 1 year (2 terms) and students spend their second term in one of the partner universities around the world. The EUIC Venice has a large network of partner universities and institutions that students may choose from.

LLM International Human Rights (Ireland)

If you are a non-EU citizen you better jump to the next master program before you get angry. This Master in Galway costs 6015 Euros for EU citizens and 12.700 for Non-EU citizens. Nethertheless Galway is a vivid place for future human rights experts, with a big pool of renowed organisations working on human rights issues that are suitable for an internship. The study which is offered by the Irish Centre for Human Rights can be conducted in a 1 year (full time) or 2 years (part time) time frame.

Master of International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (Germany)

This master program in Frankfurt takes 1.5 years (3 terms) and costs 4900 Euros. Students may be eligible for scholarships handed out by the DAAD. The program aims to provide students with “comprehensive knowledge of the system of protection of the individual spanning both the international law of peace and the international law of armed conflict, including the philosophical, political and historical foundations of that system”. Students are obliged to conduct internships of a minimum of two months during their studies.

Public International Law and Human Rights (Latvia)

This Master program in Latvia costs 5500 Euros and spans over the duration of 1 year. Please note that applications also cost 100 Euros processing fee. The programme is aimed at students interested in working with international public law issues, including human rights, in a national or international environment. It offers in-depth studies in fundamental issues of public international law and human rights law, the interaction between the two areas of law, and in current trends of their development.
